We here at Soundiron are proud to present the next entry in our series of powerful, epic choir libraries: Mars Symphonic Men’s Choir. We took all we learned from recording previous choirs and applied them here to make certain Mars is the most playable, diverse, epic choir library we have ever done.

With Mars, we are aiming for versatility. Instead of focusing on one language, we chose to go with a wide range of both Slavonic and Latin content so composers can add more flavor to their tracks. We spent 10 days in our favorite church recording the 30-voice chorus, capturing the nuances of the male human voice. Mars is all about power, both on the low-end and the high. It includes 2 mic positions (stage and hall) so composers have the flexibility to incorporate the full-bodied sound of Mars easily into their mix. Mars has risen in the night sky.

New in Version 1.5

  • Tempo Synced Poly-Sustains
  • Speed Control Presets
  • Vastly Improved Legato
  • Master Vowel Sustain Preset

More about this library and its features

Functionality

Mars features a full 30-voice male chorus as well as 3 soloists singing in both Slavonic (Russian liturgical) and Latin. A wide variety of content is included for both languages, as well as a large collection of choral effects (shouts, sweeps, clusters, etc.).

2 masterfully mixed composite microphone positions (stage and hall), carefully blended from an array of 10 discreet large diaphragm Neumann Microphones, with wide pairs ranging in distance from 1 meter to 25 meters. The two-composite position configuration allows the best balance between placement, flexibility and performance, while providing a truly massive, robust and full-bodied sound.

In addition to the true legato chorus sustains, ALL sustaining articulations in the library include 3-part polyphonic pseudo-legato (all vowel sustains, fast & slow polysustains, soloist vowel sustains, soloist slow & melodic poly-sustains).

Mars also features a unique bonus collection of Ambiences, Drones, Textures and FX content.

    • There are construction presets for each articulation type that allows you to assemble different marcatos, sustains and phrases from different syllables and vowels. However, there’s no “type whatever you like” style word builder that allows you to create totally custom lyrics. Current technology and Kontakt scripting limitations make that impossible right now, at least in any way that allows for remotely good-sounding or even slightly realistic results. In the future, as Kontakt’s functionality progresses, the raw source content already included in Mars may allow such a utility in updates down the road, but the fundamental tools aren’t really there yet to make it practical or reliable.

  10. Will you have technical demos? I think it would be great to show individual patches with perhaps some dialogue explaining how they work in audio or video form in addition to a music demo with other instruments in it.

    • Yes, we will definitely have technical demos coming soon. Most of the patches are very versatile with lots of features allowing you incredible control over the sound, so we’ll definitely want to explain all that. Thanks!

  11. Hi..Please do some tutorial video demos.

    • We’re seriously considering extending the sale for a week after the release, but the inclusion of the secret Venus discount will end as soon as Mar’s launches.

  13. Will there be more demos coming before the release?

    • JKOL
    • Reply
    • Yes, Oliver Codd’s track is the first official demo and we have a number of others on the way.

  14. Can we expect more demos (tech demos would be enough) until the relase date?

Another question concerning dynamics: Do the staccatos have multiple dynamics or are there at least also p/mp syllables – That was someting, i missed in Requiem. And what about the legato vowels? I can see (p) and (f) Oo. Does this mean the other vowels are only at one dynamic? If so, which one? Please bear with me: I have Requiem Pro, Liberis and many other Choir Libraries and there are still gaps, so I want to know such things to a nicety, before I get another one :)

    • There will be several more demos coming shortly and tech demos coming in the following weeks. Many of the Marcatos have multiple dynamic layers, but the Staccatos are all forte. The OO vowel has piano and forte dynamic layers, but the other vowels are forte, with the exception of mm, which is mp.

  15. I see there are 5 True Legato Vowels but it isn’t clear how many layers per note these have. Can you clarify this? Would Oo be split up for example as 2 different patches? One for piano and the other forte. This seems like it would be better to be as one patch to crossffade between the dynamics. This is one area I hope there is more than just one dynamic for expression to create swells realistically.

Other than this, exciting product and I look forward to demo’s that are coming before the pre-order offer ends!

    • each of the legato vowels will have it’s own separate preset, but the oo vowel will have an alternate preset as well that contains both dynamic layers stacked and crossfaded. There will also be a combined preset that has all of the vowels together, in selectable blend layers so you can cross between them. Basically, we’re providing multiple options for each element to allow for a variety of different needs.

  16. Hi,

the trailer sounds very interesting and also the specs seem impressive. My quesion: How different is this choir and also the upcomming Venus Choir from the Requiem ensemble in terms of sound and character. What about the latin phrases? Are they the same as in Requiem or do we get different ones? Maybe you can include a detailed list in the library specs.

    • Sascha
    • Reply
    • Hi Sacha, a full spec and articulations list is coming soon. The two libraries compliment each other very well, with Mars delivering detail, depth and body and Requiem Light providing a rich polish. Mars has a much fuller, more present and slightly drier sound with more bass and warmth, while Requiem Light has a lush and airy quality, with a classic cathedral spaciousness. Requiem Light only contains Latin elements, while Mars has both Slavonic (Russian) and Latin halves. Mars also contains vastly more content overall, including a much larger range of vowels, marcatos, staccatos, polysustains (including new types) and greater overall depth in the soloist section. The two libraries overlap in a specific subset of the Latin polysustains so that the two libraries can be stacked for an absolutely enormous sound, but generally, neither library makes the other redundant. Think of Requiem Light as an all-in-one choral production toolbox, while Mars and Venus are heavy duty power tools.

But I’ll be listening out for more demos!
