The new Requiem Light is a powerful and innovative professional Latin choir library featuring 40 world-class singers, fully captured in one of San Francisco’s oldest Cathedrals, the historic St Paul’s Church. Featuring renowned conductor Robert Geary and members of the SF Choral Society, SF Symphony Chorus and Volti, Requiem Light delivers a rich, lush and vibrant sound that has been tailored specifically for even the most demanding professional trailer, soundtrack and symphonic scoring needs. Now at version 2.5, Requiem Light has evolved well beyond it’s humble origins and now offers cutting edge programming, playability and user control, with an ultra-efficient resource footprint. With a full range of ensemble and male/female divisi round-robin staccato syllables, thunderous sustaining marcato words, tempo-syncing poly-syllabic Latin liturgical chants, a full range of custom-blendable vowel sustains and a mountain of classic and exotic choral effects, you’ll find a full range of intuitively sampled choral building blocks to sculpt with. All Latin chants, staccatos, marcatos and vowels have been chromatically and dynamically sampled. It features full chorus true legato for ah, eh and oh vowels, in smoothly blending pp-ff dynamic layers and real-time cross-vowel morphing. It also includes our premier 1st soprano soloist Kristen Brown and our 1st tenor Michael Mendelsohn. In addition, there’s a deep selection of custom sound-designed choral pads, ambiences and soundscapes, an integrated array of custom room reverb impulsess and DSP effects, as well as hundreds of choral effects including whispers, shouts, clusters, demonic chants, sweeps, syllables and raw consonants, claps, snaps, chatters, drones and much, much more.

New to version 2.5 :
Version 1 of this library was originally published by Tonehammer. For our latest update to version 2.5, we’ve added additional tempo-synching and time-stretching functionality to all poly-sustains, soloists and choral effects, with the help of Kontakt 5’s new higher quality TM Pro engine. Please be aware that Kontakt 5 is required for these new specialty presets.

This is a open-format Kontakt library, so all nki presets require the full retail version of Kontakt to load. The free Kontakt Player and special “Libraries” tab do not support open format libraries of this type. You can use the Files, Database and Quickload areas or simply drag & drop into Kontakt’s main instrument rack to load the instrument presets included in this product.

More about this library and its features

Functionality

Requiem Light was recorded with 12 microphones, in matched stereo pairs ranging from ultra-close to far. Each sample has been hand-mixed down into a perfectly well-balanced pristine stereo blend that provides unmatched quality, depth, power, tone and body, while allowing far more efficient use of your system resources and total ease of use. Requiem Light is intended for users who want a professional choir library at their fingertips right out of the box, without the tradeoffs of bulk, resource load or unnecessary complexity. It’s designed to punch straight through any mix like no other choir library, with plenty of fluid subtlety for more delicate passages.

All Latin Poly-syllabic Sustaining Chants (“poly-sustains”) feature tempo-syncing (K5 TMPro Engine), with optional fully polyphonic synchronized in-phrase legato that allows you to play up to 3 fully independent range-adjustable melodies at once, without interrupting the chant. You can also blend and transition between any two chants together freely at any time, with our fluid layer building and blending controls. Full automatable Offset, Attack and Release controls allow you to shape nearly every aspect of the phrase and weave complex variations and organic performances.

The library contains sustains and polyphonic true legato from piano to forte, covering 3 primary vowel sounds, six vowel sustaining variants with separate male and female patches and extended ranges, staccato with 2X round-robin, new and improved ultra forte sustaining marcato with releases, custom phrase-builder, latin chants recorded at different speeds across the entire interval of choir with playable real-time legato functionality, hundreds of choral effects including whispers, shouts, clusters, demonic chants, sweeps, consonants, claps, snaps and other effect types.

The included Convolution Reverb effect features 74 select custom impulse responses recorded from some of our favorite locations. Among those are also fx impulses which are more special effect than reverb.

  1. Hi there

I originally purchased Requiem Pro in the early days of Tonehammer. It would appear that the Light version version has surpassed the previously more ‘complete’ version. Do you offer an upgrade path from Pro?

Also, where does Liberis fit in the picture? I also have that library.

I am also considering purchasing the Mars/Venus combo and, apart from the female voices, what this would offer me over Requiem.

    • Yes, we do now offer an exclusive solution for existing Requiem Pro owners that can provide an excellent discount on Requiem Light. We can offer our special Classic Choral Bundle, which includes both the Requiem Light and our Elvish Choir libraries together for only $269.99 (standard format) or $299.99 (player edition). The discount can’t be combined with any other sale price, bulk discount or other special offers and proof of purchase is required.

As far as making any comparison to any other choir library on the market, we can say without a doubt that there really is no equal to the power, quality and depth you get in Mars and Venus as a complete set. For only $569, you get nearly 45 GB of content and over 42,000 samples, with a larger choir, far more advanced and flexible programming, a vastly greater variety of articulations, superior tempo synching capabilities on all lyrical and rhythmic articulations, higher audio resolution, better fidelity thanks to greatly improved recording techniques and superior equipment. The choir includes 63 professional singers, including members of the SF Choral Society, SF Symphony Chorus and Volti. It also offers the best balance between flexibility and efficiency, with a super close position and wider far position that make custom mixing and 5.1 surround mixing easy. We also offer a total of 8 soloists (SATB) and total male/female section divisi on every standard articulation type.

You can also dial in the exact sound you’re looking for with an unparalleled range of user interface features, fully integrated custom room, hall and special effects convolution impulses and total real-time automation control over every adjustable parameter. This allows you to get just the right amount of room wetness and tone you’re looking for. There’s also a huge set of bonus content, including custom sound designed drones, ambiences, pads and soundscapes, as well as unique tuned/untuned percussion elements that we captured in conjunction with the choir. We also expanded our phrase builder to incorporate both sustaining marcatos and staccatos together, with the ability to build and save up to 16 unique sequences and re-arrange any sequence on the fly in real-time. We’ve also got a unique sustaining word builder and a vast collection of both Latin and Russian poly-sustains, at a variety of different tempos that can all be automatically tempo-synched to your host. The polyphonic legato system is also the best you’ll find anywhere. It allows real-time dynamic, vowel-blending and transition speed control, allowing truly expressive performances. You can go from tight legato transitions to long, fluid portamento bends with the turn of a dial.

We basically took everything we learned from all of the choral projects we’ve ever worked on and pushed Mars and Venus way beyond any of those previous efforts. The goal was to provide a total choral scoring solution with uncompromising audio quality, useability and versatility and an unequaled value. And as new and advanced as both Mars and Venus are, we’ve already released one major update for Mars and are already developing more advancements for both Mars and Venus for the near future. Whichever Soundiron Choral library you choose, you’ll can count on total support and regular updates.

  2. Any news on the NI PLayer (not full version) version? I can’t afford to buy the full version of NI just for this! But I want this!

    • Sure, we can go over the main advantages to Requiem Light, since it has undergone major feature updates with the 2.0 re-launch:

      - All of the same Staccato syllables are included in both versions.

      - Requiem Light has the two best sets of soloist poly-sustain phrases (Kristen our soprano and Michael, our tenor). We left out the additional soprano, tenor and bass in Light.

      - Requiem Light has all three of the original room positions carefully rendered and mastered into a well-balanced and ultra-powerful stereo mix. Basically, the sound in Requiem Light right out of the box is slightly bigger than what you’d get if you loaded all three room positions (close, mid, far) all into ram at the same time. We spent a long time getting the mix just right, so the advantage is that you can get the same sound, while using1/3rd of the system resources across the board.

      - Requiem Light has exclusive ambiences and special FX presents, so they blend extremely well with the choir to really beef up your choral compositions. These are exclusive to Requiem Light.

      - Requiem Light has newly upgraded FFF Marcatos that allow infinite sustain, with release triggers and 3-voice polyphonic legato. You can also control the volume of the release samples and fully blend, cross-fade and re-shape the Marcatos in real-time.They also include new 3-part polyphonic pseudo-legato. These improvements are all exclusive to Requiem Light.

      - Requiem Light has release timing control in the Fast Poly-sustains, so you can release them whenever you like or hold them until the end. In both cases, the release syllable with trigger properly and realistically. It also has 3-part polyphonic legato added. These new features are only in Requiem Light.

      - Requiem Light includes all of the same essential choral effects articulations, minus a few of the more obscure variants and experiments from the original sessions that we left out.

      - Requiem Light has all of the same vowel sustains with the sole exception of the male “mmm” vowel, but we’ve covered that one in Mars. We also reprogrammed our vowel sustains in Requiem Light to be more flexible and allow more real-time custom blending options. This upgrade is exclusive to Requiem Light.

      - We also refined the legato transitions and stretched the note ranges up and down so that you can play artificially lower and higher notes than you can in the other version. We’ve also standardized the key-mapping, so that you don’t need to transpose the legato presets to let them match other articulations. This upgrade is exclusive to Requiem Light.

      - In Requiem Light, we’ve added a wide range of DSP effects chaining options right into the main interface, including a full featured convolution reverb section that features dozens of custom recorded room, hall and other space impulses, as well as a large set of special-FX impulses that allow you to create a massive range of textures, drones, ambiences and all sorts of other sound design possibilities, above and beyond simple reverbs. This upgrade is exclusive to Requiem Light.

      - Requiem Light doesn’t require you to run a UI installer after installing the library. The UI is fully integrated and self contained. Download and installation is now a single simple step.

Basically, the “Light” in Requiem Light is a bit of a misnomer, since it’s actually now the more powerful library of the two by a long shot. There’s a huge wealth of new features, enhancements and upgraded content. All you give up is phrases for a couple of solo voices, a few auxiliary choral effects the added bulk of managing and loading the 3 microphone positions separately.

  5. Every review of Requiem Light that I can find (all of them dated about a year ago, August 2010) state clearly that the light version doesn’t require the full retail version of Kontakt to use. But Soundiron’s site states clearly that is does require the full version. Is this correct, and if so, why the change?

    • The old Player-supported version of Requiem Light was discontinued at Tonehammer back in January. The reviews you’ve read are most likely reviews for that old version. We’ve brought Requiem Light back to the world here at Soundiron with vastly improved features and capabilities, and due to overwhelming popular demand for open sample directories and instrument settings, we offer it as a standard open format Kontakt instrument, rather than a locked/encrypted Player library. We’re working with Native Instruments now and will be offering a version of 2.0 that also supports the free Kontakt Player later this Fall, but it’s not a simple process by any means. Also, keep in mind that the Player compatible version will have locked content, which just comes with the territory.

      • Since I don’t have Kontakt, I’m not familiar with the difference between an open sample directory and a locked/encrypted library. I do have NI Battery, and was a bit disappointed to see that all of the individual samples were locked away into their unique database format. What kind of content will be unavailable when using the free Kontakt player? Will there be two versions of Requiem Light, or will the same version offer the extra content if I were to upgrade to the full version of Kontakt?

        • This library doesn’t currently support the free Kontakt Player at all, so you wouldn’t be able to use it currently without the full version of Kontakt. The free Player can only open locked “Powered By Kontakt” Player libraries. We’re working with Native Instruments now to create a Powered By Kontakt version of the library later on this Fall. Both versions will have the same content included, but the “Powered By Kontakt” version will always have locked samples and more limited accessibility, simply due to the way that that system works.

  6. is so gonna get this when i can afford it

  7. I got Requiem Light 2.0 as an update. It works VERY well!
Will you ever release a TUTORIAL for us terrestrial human beings that do not know how to set up in the DAW all those great performance effects in the demos up there?

I must say that it is such a nice feeling to see how Soundiron takes care of its former costumers from Tonehammer: it is the very first time I get so much from a company in this field.
I guess you guys want us all to fall in love with Soundiron ;-)

    Love to all!

  8. Really glad to see this back because I could never justify pro. Then again it’s still $267… maybe I’m not so glad :)

Anyway, is there any chance of a screencast showing a track being built with Requiem Light? Especially the phrase-builder. I’m keen to know what kind of results a mere mortal like myself could get with it.

    Thanks.

    Matt

  9. Hi Mike, if I purchase light now will I be able to get the updated version so I can load the library into Kontakt as a Kontakt library? I only ask as it is much easier to load patches from the library panel than having to trawl through my HD.

    • It’s standard open-format, so you do need the full version of Kontakt to run it and use the normal Files tab in the Kontakt browser to load the nkis. Honestly, if you navigate in the Kontakt Files browser pane to the Requiem Light Instruments directory, it’s pretty easy to get around in. You can also add it to the Quicksearch Database if you prefer to use that. When we’re able to offer Powered By Kontakt Player support, you’ll be able to convert to it for just the added cost of the license code. Just remember that the encoded Player format locked all of the samples, so you’d wouldn’t be able to directly access them.

    • Why don’t you just make your own bank structure in the database tab in kontakt? Once you save the database, you can just browse thro your sample libraries by name there and have them all neatly structured and in order, eliminating the need to always browse thro your hard drive for nkis. I use the database tab for all the libraries that don’t come with the “Powered-By-Kontakt” option.

  10. Oohhh! An update! Looking forward to it! Thankx!

  11. You mentioned that version 2.0 will be a free upgrade to current Requiem Light owners. How do we go about getting it? Is the update available yet?

    • We will be rolling out the instrument updates over the next couple of days, starting with our higher-profile items first (Requiem Light, Emotional Piano, etc.). Existing owners should be receiving an upgrade e-mail very soon. If you are an owner of one of the updated libraries and do not receive an e-mail within the week, please contact our support.

  16. Hello. Good News that Requiem Light is again available. I had written to Tonehammer to obtain a DVD version of Requiem Pro, as the files are just too large with it to even consider a download; but they informed me that this would add considerably to the cost, and it could take several weeks for delivery. Many of us in that “real world” out there don’t really need the Rolls-Royce Silver Phantom of choir sampling programs, but something that we can use in everyday work projects. When will pricing become announced? And will you also carry downloads (or DVD’s) of Kontakt 4+ for persons requiring this to use the sampler? Best wishes for your success with this new venture!

    • Hi Glen,

Requiem Light version 2.0 will actually not be a “Powered-By-Kontakt” Player library for the time being. We’ll be adding Player support for it within the next month or two, but for now, you’d need the full retail version of Kontakt to use it.

Pricing will be announced on August 1st and the DVD option will be available by the end the first week of August.
